Acquisition to strengthen IIoT expertise

Come Jan­u­ary, SICK AG will increase its minor­i­ty stake in MOBILISIS d.o.o. to 100 per­cent. The Croa­t­ian com­pa­ny will thus be ful­ly trans­ferred to the AG. The com­pa­ny has already held a stake in the IT com­pa­ny since 2017.

In the con­text of Indus­try 4.0 and the asso­ci­at­ed dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion, the AG focus­es on inno­va­tions around soft­ware-based sen­sor solu­tions. With the acqui­si­tion, SICK is strength­en­ing its exper­tise in the field of wire­less net­work­ing of indus­tri­al IoT devices. MOBILISIS com­ple­ments the sen­sor-based offer­ing with cloud and edge solu­tions. The aim is to estab­lish a seam­less con­nec­tion between sen­sor data and the cloud plat­form, which con­tributes sig­nif­i­cant­ly to rapid net­work­ing between the worlds of so-called Infor­ma­tion Tech­nol­o­gy (IT) and Oper­a­tional Tech­nol­o­gy (OT).

A first mile­stone is to expand the port­fo­lio around dig­i­tal local­iza­tion solu­tions in the con­text of Indus­trie 4.0 away from sta­tion­ary con­vey­or sys­tems and to real­ize appli­ca­tions on the store floor, with­in and between com­pa­nies. In the future, this will enable users to cre­ate trans­paren­cy about the where­abouts of their goods and mer­chan­dise as soon as they leave the sta­tion­ary con­vey­or systems.

“With Mobil­i­sis, we have already devel­oped the first sen­sor solu­tions that close the gap between sen­sor and IT,” adds Dr. Niels Syassen. He speaks of joint devel­op­ment projects — includ­ing the TDC‑E edge gate­way prod­uct series, SIM2000ST‑E, a sys­tem con­troller for track and trace appli­ca­tions, tags for indoor local­iza­tion, and pro­gram­ming for local­iza­tion solu­tions. In addi­tion, MOBILISIS has suc­cess­ful­ly expand­ed its busi­ness core around intel­li­gent trans­porta­tion sys­tems, fleet man­age­ment and relat­ed cloud appli­ca­tions in recent years, fill­ing the role of dis­trib­u­tor and proven sys­tem inte­gra­tor for the com­pa­ny in Croa­t­ia. Togeth­er, the Croa­t­ian busi­ness is thus also expect­ed to grow.

Both par­ties have tak­en the oppor­tu­ni­ty and got to know each oth­er in the past years of coop­er­a­tion: “The coop­er­a­tion is very trust­ing and enrich­ing. We hope to con­tin­ue this in the new struc­ture,” says Dr. Niels Syassen, describ­ing the joint work.
