Online training module for the paper industry

A new train­ing mod­ule for the pulp and paper indus­try is added to NSK acad­e­my’s train­ing offer­ing. The infor­ma­tive course focus­es on the dry­er sec­tion of paper­mak­ing machin­ery and is aimed at any­one who selects, spec­i­fies or main­tains rolling bear­ings for this demand­ing appli­ca­tion. Par­tic­i­pants who com­plete the course with at least 80% of the achiev­able score will receive a certificate.

The dry­er sec­tion of paper machines places very high demands on rolling bear­ings. High tem­per­a­tures, humid­i­ty (steam) and con­t­a­m­i­nants enter­ing the bear­ing can bring the entire pro­duc­tion line to a stand­still if the bear­ings fail. Opti­mal bear­ing spec­i­fi­ca­tion and main­te­nance can there­fore sig­nif­i­cant­ly improve the prof­itabil­i­ty of the over­all plant by avoid­ing unplanned pro­duc­tion down­time and increas­ing bear­ing life.

Know-how around the right bear­ing selec­tion is the key here. The new NSK Acad­e­my train­ing mod­ule for rolling bear­ings used in the dry­er sec­tion pro­vides prac­ti­tion­ers with the nec­es­sary knowledge.

The com­pre­hen­sive learn­ing mate­r­i­al first explains the dif­fer­ent areas of the dry­er sec­tion where rolling bear­ings are need­ed — for exam­ple, paper rolls, dry­ing cylin­ders, dry­ers and PV rolls. The mod­ule describes the func­tion of each area, its typ­i­cal oper­at­ing con­di­tions and the bear­ing char­ac­ter­is­tics required for high per­for­mance. It also iden­ti­fies a num­ber of poten­tial chal­lenges and pro­vides infor­ma­tion on the types of bear­ings that are best suit­ed to solve these problems.

Par­tic­i­pants in the train­ing mod­ule will also receive detailed infor­ma­tion on typ­i­cal bear­ing fail­ures in the dry­er sec­tion of paper machines and their caus­es — for exam­ple, inner ring break­age, inner ring creep and flak­ing. The course shows which coun­ter­mea­sures are best to be tak­en in each case.

All in all, NSK’s lat­est train­ing mod­ule pro­vides an under­stand­ing of the basic require­ments for rolling bear­ings in the dry­er sec­tion, where very high tem­per­a­tures, high speeds and heavy loads can cause sig­nif­i­cant prob­lems with inad­e­quate­ly spec­i­fied or main­tained bear­ings. The course is aimed at sales, tech­ni­cal sup­port, research & devel­op­ment, engi­neer­ing and maintenance/service per­son­nel in the paper indus­try or at paper machine manufacturers.
