In pump shafts, the deployed measurement technology has to contend with material that can quickly influence the measuring results. In Zeulenroda, measuring with a suspended pressure transmitter through a pipe that reached down to about 10 cm above the ground was difficult. Due to a pile of sand that formed at the bottom of the shaft, inaccuracies kept occurring. To solve the problem, employees of the sewage treatment plant decided to try radar measurement with a VEGAPULS C 23 with encapsulation. The measurement now takes place contactlessly at the upper rim of the shaft. From there, the radar sensors operate without effect from dirt and buildup – or from “annoying” sand accumulations. In Zeulenroda, VEGAPULS C 23 proves that it’s possible to have a clear view despite all adversities: In any case, the sensor doesn’t care at all about accumulations of material, no matter what kind.
