The “Rosemount TankMaster” inventory management software package has been enhanced by Emerson to help optimise the utilisation and increase the safety of full containment storage tanks for liquefied natural gas and other liquid gases. These tanks are large, complex structures with a typical capacity of up to 200 000 cubic metres, placing special demands on tank measurement systems. By providing both inventory management and rollover forecasting in a single software solution, TankMaster reduces costs, increases ease of use and reduces the risk of potential accidents.
Rollovers are dangerous releases of vaporising gases that can occur when uncontrolled stratification of liquefied natural gas occurs. The consequences can be severe — including significant damage to tanks and the release of large quantities of liquefied natural gas into the atmosphere. Therefore, companies need to implement measures to predict rollover. Emerson’s TankMaster software uses data from level, temperature and density measurement systems integrated into the Rosemount tank farm measurement system to detect stratification and calculate when rollover may occur. This enables operators to take preventative measures.
Until now, companies usually had their rollover forecasting and inventory management software installed separately on different PCs. Rosemount TankMaster now offers both functions in a single solution that also includes stratification detection and alarms, cool-down and leak detection, an overview of temperature measurements and support for remote acceptance testing. This innovation creates multiple benefits for users, which include lower costs, improved ease of use and minimal training requirements. It also reduces the risk of accidents due to human error.
