Smart domestic waterworks wins German Design Award 2022

In addi­tion to the Com­fort BU/BXU cir­cu­la­tion pump, anoth­er Grund­fos prod­uct has won an award at the Ger­man Design Award 2022. The Scala1 domes­tic water­works won the inter­na­tion­al­ly renowned design award in the cat­e­go­ry ‘Excel­lent Prod­uct Design — Ener­gy’. With this award, the inter­na­tion­al jury rec­og­nizes ground­break­ing design achieve­ments. The basis of the eval­u­a­tion is, among oth­er things, func­tion­al­i­ty, usabil­i­ty, degree of inno­va­tion and sus­tain­abil­i­ty. The Scala1 is a smart domes­tic water­works unit that can be adjust­ed via smart­phone for a wide range of appli­ca­tions in the home and gar­den. The Ger­man Design Award was pre­sent­ed at the offi­cial awards cer­e­mo­ny in Feb­ru­ary 2022.

The award hon­ors inno­v­a­tive prod­ucts, projects, man­u­fac­tur­ers and design­ers whose design is ground­break­ing and pro­vides ori­en­ta­tion in design. The award is pre­sent­ed by the Ger­man Design Coun­cil, which was found­ed in 1953 on the ini­tia­tive of the Ger­man Bun­destag and, as an inde­pen­dent­ly oper­at­ing foun­da­tion, is one of the lead­ing inter­na­tion­al cen­ters of excel­lence for com­mu­ni­ca­tion and brand man­age­ment in the field of design. More than 260 com­pa­nies are mem­bers of the foun­da­tion, and the jury is made up of high-cal­iber inter­na­tion­al members.

The Scala1, which won an award for its ground­break­ing design, is a smart, ver­sa­tile all-in-one solu­tion for domes­tic water sup­ply and gar­den irri­ga­tion. The sys­tem, which can be used for both sta­tion­ary and mobile appli­ca­tions, is extreme­ly com­pact, has a par­tic­u­lar­ly qui­et water-cooled motor, and can be installed direct­ly out­doors with IPx4D class splash water pro­tec­tion with­out the need for addi­tion­al enclo­sures. Numer­ous inte­grat­ed pro­tec­tive fea­tures ensure trou­ble-free oper­a­tion, includ­ing motor, dry-run­ning and flood­ing pro­tec­tion. In addi­tion, the Scala1 es has a man­u­al­ly switch­able vent­ing func­tion for wells with high gas content.

Ground­break­ing fea­tures include ver­sa­til­i­ty and straight­for­ward oper­a­tion. In addi­tion to nor­mal oper­a­tion with fac­to­ry set­tings, the domes­tic water­works becomes a mul­ti-tal­ent via an inte­grat­ed Blue­tooth inter­face and the free Grund­fos Go Remote app. The intu­itive app pro­vides, for exam­ple, an inte­grat­ed week­ly timer that can be used to set an indi­vid­ual irri­ga­tion pro­gram. Addi­tion­al options are offered by a func­tion input, via which rain or soil mois­ture sen­sors can be used to con­trol the irri­ga­tion. The app can also be used to indi­vid­u­al­ly set pro­tec­tion para­me­ters and per­form firmware updates to take advan­tage of future func­tion enhancements.
